United Health Centers (UHC) has been providing quality health care to residents of Fresno, Tulare, and Kings Counties for close to 50 years. UHC is a nonprofit federally-qualified community health center established in 1971. UHC is dedicated to improving the overall health of the residents located in the CA Central Valley.
 
Summary of duties:
 
The Substance Abuse Counselor, under the direction of the Behavioral Health Program Director, will provide support and treatment to patients who are suffering from addiction to drugs or alcohol. In collaboration with the Behavioral Health Department and patient medical team, the Substance Abuse Counselor will provide counseling for each patient and provide instruction on how to modify behaviors that are harmful with the intention of a full recovery. The Substance Abuse Counselor will have many of the same patients on an on-going basis as patients are susceptible to relapses. The counseling efforts may include counseling family members as codependents with treatment showing the causes and effects of addictions to assist and support them when dealing with these types of issues.
 
Qualifications:
 
Education:
 
· Associates of Arts (AA) Required
 
· Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
 
License/Certification:
 
· State counseling certification
 
· Possess a valid driver’s license
 
· Valid and current CPR
 
Prior Experience:
 
· Minimum 2 years of experience in a healthcare and counseling setting.
 
Skills:
 
· Bilingual (English/Spanish)
 
· Emergency response
 
· Effective counseling abilities
 
· Proficient in conflict resolution
 
· Customer-service oriented
 
· Flexibility and dependability
 
· Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
